Case study A

Kayrakise Evans 001

A has suffered with mental illness all his life but it became debilitating 10 years ago causing him to lose his business. For 8 years he ventured no further than the end of his road and had “no interest in anything”.   Having an interest in photography he was referred to NPH by Nottinghamshire Social Inclusion and Well-being Team. Leaving his house was difficult so he set himself a challenge to get on the bus into Nottingham to attend a course.

A states: “I felt at ease straight away; I felt very welcome. The trips were marvellous because I wouldn’t go anywhere even though I prefer to be outside than inside. I stayed inside for 8 years! I don’t have a problem going out now.   I’m still not a 100%, I have to get back within 3-4 hours as I’ve had enough and find it overwhelming but before the course I would not have caught a bus into town – that would just not happen so to get here from where I was is really quite something.” A is now a member of the Cam-Era Group.
