Case Study D

Mark Lindsay 001

D has been medically diagnosed with bi-polar for over 20 years making it difficult for him to get paid employment and was involved in the pilot project that was the precursor to Big Lottery funding. His photography has developed to such an extent that he was commissioned by a leading cancer charity to provide some images for a national campaign. The fees he received enabled him to come off benefits for a short time.

He has gone from strength to strength – he has become a qualified press photographer receiving payment for photographs that are used by the local press; provided a publicity shot for John Lewis which is used on the website to advertise its Nottingham store; is undertaking a full-time photography course at a local college; has partnered with another Cam-Era member  and set up a photography business which, in its first few months has provided paid photography services for two weddings, a christening and a portraiture shoot for a family. D participated in the ‘Stepping Stones: Developing Workplace Skills’ pilot project which helped him to learn how to communicate and work with clients. These substantial outcomes for D show that the new project is likely to make a real difference to participants’ lives.
